“Giving is more than just money. See the impact of all that you give” using everydayhero

This is a cross-post from my personal blog at WillHull.com and I consider this very pertinent to just about any audience who is philanthropically-minded. As parents, we encourage the principle of giving back with our kids in our own family and I assume the same lessons are shared with your kids in your family. What percentage of funding reaches the organizations in support of your cause?

There is a small 5% service fee on donations, plus a 2.9% and $0.30 per transaction processing fee is charged whenever a transaction takes place. That leaves over 90% reaching organizations in support of your cause.

How is this different from supporting a walk/run/event hosted by a charity?

The difference is that it is personal. It is your choice what you do to support your cause of choice. You don’t need permission from a charity to host an event in support of your cause. You don’t need to adhere to brand standards of a given charity. You do what you want to do to raise money for your cause of choice? You have the best of intentions in mind, right? So why let those things stop you in support of your cause. Maybe you’re not a runner or not into physical activity to participate in an event such as a 5K, half or full marathon? Maybe you’re not into a Saturday event once/year? Maybe you want to exploit your personal skills and talents to deliver the most good possible to achieve the goals of your cause? Whether those skills be video games, playing tag, hosting a bake sale, or even running a blog like this one. “It’s a boy! It’s a girl! I am waiting to find out!” It’s a baby shower for military wives in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area on March 9, 2013 and we need your help.

Windy Pinwheel is all about helping those seeking solidarity, community, fellowship, and friendship among parents, and things to do for parents, here in the northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada region. We, at Windy Pinwheel, were recently contacted by an individual named Farrah Brown seeking our help to spread the word about a baby shower that she is planning for 7 military wives in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area on March 9, 2013. These military wives are far away from home and won’t receive a traditional baby shower because they are so far away from family and friends. It is not just the soldiers who are serving, but also the families of active military who make sacrifices for our country. We are always indebted to the men and women who serve this country and their families. What a fantastic way to give back for their sacrifice by spreading the word about this event. We want to help.

The event itself will take place at the local Reno VFW on March 9 at 1 PM.

And there you have it. A photographer will be on-hand during the event to capture the moments as well as capture all the donations on digital film. Farrah has already reached out to local newspapers and magazines in hopes of spreading the word about the event.
