“It’s a boy! It’s a girl! I am waiting to find out!” It’s a baby shower for military wives in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area on March 9, 2013 and we need your help.

Windy Pinwheel is all about helping those seeking solidarity, community, fellowship, and friendship among parents, and things to do for parents, here in the northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada region. We, at Windy Pinwheel, were recently contacted by an individual named Farrah Brown seeking our help to spread the word about a baby shower that she is planning for 7 military wives in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area on March 9, 2013. These military wives are far away from home and won’t receive a traditional baby shower because they are so far away from family and friends. It is not just the soldiers who are serving, but also the families of active military who make sacrifices for our country. We are always indebted to the men and women who serve this country and their families. What a fantastic way to give back for their sacrifice by spreading the word about this event. We want to help.

The event itself will take place at the local Reno VFW on March 9 at 1 PM.

Ready. Set. Paint! Explore your kid’s creativity and create Word Art on canvas or paper. A perfect gift idea for grandparents and parents alike.

My Pinterest addiction is fairly serious. I find so many ideas for around the house. For example, outfit ideas; all of which leads to shopping. But, my favorite part of the addiction are the ideas for doing crafty activities with my kids.

I originally pinned this Word Art idea for kids painting their own name in early 2012 and saved the idea in the back of my mind until the perfect project opportunity popped up for me.

We were setting up a playroom for our kids (because I wanted to reclaim my living room) and I was looking around my favorite kids retailers PBKids, Land of Nod, etc.) and noticed a trend in graphic arts with simple words about play for kids. So I thought, why not combine those two things and let the kids create their own word art?

I dug out my old pinned idea and started to figure out how to make this come together. So, here are the steps I took to make my playroom wall art. You can let your kids go crazy with this project and they will tell everyone who visits the house that they created the artwork on the walls (and this time it won’t be crayon directly on the walls).

Steps to creating your own Word Art

1. Decide on the words you want to use. The example I pinned is a child’s name, but I chose,”Play, Read and Create”. I was hoping for some inspiration for the kiddos.
2. While the pin described taping off the word, I chose to print out the words on cardstock and tape the words to the canvas. This way, I could pick out a font that I liked.
3. Gather your supplies: A tarp or something to lay on the ground to save your floor and washable paint.
4. Optional items: Paint brushes, aprons, art canvas to paint on (you can just use paper and frame it as well).
5. Get it all ready and make sure that you and the kids are wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
6. Ready, set, PAINT! Have fun and let them paint all over just make sure the cardstock is securely attached to the canvas (Scotch tape is not recommended).
7. Once they are done take the cardstock off and voila! You have an original masterpiece.

These also make great gifts for grandparents. We recently created one for the room all the grandchildren sleep in at my parents’ house that says, “Sweet Dreams” and have a request from my mom for a yellow and orange design that will say, “You are my sunshine”. It’s a really enjoyable adventure for the kids and something they can be proud of. The best part is that you will treasure it for years to come.

Red Stamp is really easy to use and I find myself sending cute cards to friends and family more often now because it’s right at my fingertips. I love that I can post on someone’s wall, or just send them a text message with the image right in it. I also love how many options it has for types of cards and includes photo and non-photo cards. Many of the cards have several color options as well.

Surprise your kids and make their day with these free Halloween themed printable lunch box love notes for their lunch boxes.

I found these little tin mail boxes for our kids and wanted to leave them little notes in the weeks before Valentine’s Day and found that the notes were a nice little way for them to wake up each morning. I laminated the little notes before I put them in their lunch boxes, and with one child teething at the time it was best to protect the little notes so they lasted through the day.

Being a full time working parent sending my children off to school can be tough some days. Inspiring a lifetime love of learning.

This was a post I had posted a while back on my other website at Hullabaloo Stories and I received such good feedback that I thought I would share it here on Windy Pinwheel. Below are some of my absolute favorite books about the amazing love between parent and child. These are the books I love to read to my children.

This first book was a book I fell in love with when I was in 2nd grade, my teacher even cried when she read it, back then I had no idea why, but when I became a parent, I understood why. I used to read this book to both of my kids when they were in my belly. I wanted them to come into this world knowing they were loved and would be forever.

Love You Forever by Robert Munsch

This book goes through a child’s life span and explains how a mother’s love knows no limits, no matter how hard the day was, no matter how bad the temper tantrums were and no matter how much the house got messy or things got broken. At the end of the day, parents love their children unconditionally.

“Love you forever, like you for always” is my favorite quote of the book.

You Are My I Love You, by Maryann Cusimano Love

This book is pure poetry to me. The love between a parent and child is unique. This story goes through the ways parents love their children and, in return, how children love their parents.

“I am your way home; you are my new path.” is my favorite quote from this book, as it describes new parenthood so well, a new path for the parent but home base for the whole family.

I Love You Through and Through, by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak

This book is not only about loving your child and everything about them, but it’s a teaching book. While reading this book, you can teach your child about emotions, body parts, and motions.

My favorite line is the last two pages of the book, “I love you through and through…yesterday, today and, tomorrow, too”. I tend to get a little teary when I read that line to my children.

I Love You More, by Laura Duksta

This is a fun book because it shows both sides of the love story of mother and child. The book itself has two stories in it, the author writes that it’s a “flip-side book…like love it never ends” I think that is my favorite quote, because like my favorite children’s book, Love You Forever, the love between parents and children never ends.

Inside the book, the mother tries to explain her love for her child and on the flip side the child attempts to do the same thing, in words that a child would use to explain things.

Guess How Much I Love You, by Sam McBratney

In this book the little bunny is trying to tell his dad how much he loves him but in return the daddy bunny expands on that to show the love he has for his child is limitless. A very cute story.

So there you go, my favorite books about loving your children. I love to read these books to my children and I hope that you will enjoy them as well.
